Parking
Car park spaces inside the Main Campus are under the management of Wilson Parking (Holding) Limited. The undesignated spaces are open for use by the general public, staff members, students, alumni and contractors (in so far as they have observed the rules including payment). Wheelchairs
UMAG is accessible for wheelchair users and other visitors who need to avoid stairs. Disabled users are encouraged to contact the Museum at +852 2241 5500 for immediate advice as routes or pathways around the Museum can be complicated.

Visiting Rules

Admission
1.1 Admission to the Museum is free, but there may be an entry charge for certain events or workshops.
1.2 In the interest of security and public safety, the Museum’s opening hours may be altered, or specific areas may be closed, without prior notice.
1.3 If it should be necessary to close all or part of the Museum temporarily for any reason, you will be directed to the exit by specific routes.
1.4 Children under 12 can only enter the museum when accompanied by an adult.
1.5 Reservations are required for group visits with 10 participants or more.
1.6 Crowd control measures will be in place; UMAG reserves the right to limit the number of visitors.
1.7 Disability access is available upon request. Please contact the museum at (852) 2241 5500 three working days prior to your visit.

Bag searches and other searches
2.1 If asked, you must allow security officers to search your bags when entering or leaving the Museum.
2.2 UMAG reserves the right not to allow any item deemed inappropriate to be brought into the Museum.

Cloakrooms and luggage
3.1 You must not bring into the Museum any item, including bags and luggage (other than fold-up pushchairs or mobility aids if you have a disability), which is greater than 55cm x 35cm x 20cm or weighs more than 10kg.
3.2 Wheeled cases, carriers and recreational devices (such as skateboards, scooters, inline skates and shoes with built-in wheels) are not allowed in the Museum.
3.3 On rainy days, please place umbrellas in the carrying cases or the umbrella stand provided by the Museum.
3.4 Visitors must retrieve their bags or luggage from the cloakrooms by 5:55 pm. Otherwise, they will be treated as unattended property. See Section 4.1 for more details.

Unattended and lost property
4.1 Please mind your personal belongings. UMAG does not assume liability or responsibility for any damage to or loss of property left unattended. Staff reserves the right to have unattended property removed and/or destroyed without warning. UMAG will not be held liable for the removal or destruction of any property left unattended.

Food and drink
5.1 No food, drink or chewing gum is allowed in the galleries.
5.2 Visitors carrying food or drink must leave their food and drink at the Fung Ping Shan entrance or T.T. Tsui Building’s Bookstore before entering the galleries.
5.3 Smoking, including the use of e-cigarettes or other vaping devices, is not allowed in the Museum.

Animal
6.1 Animals are not allowed in the Museum under any circumstances, with the exception of trained assistance dogs, including guide dogs, hearing assistance dogs or service dogs. Trained assistance dogs must always wear identifying vests or tags and remain on a leash or in a harness and under the control of the owner.

Photography in gallery
7.1 Photography and video recording are only allowed for permanent displays. Visitors are not permitted to take photos or record videos of temporary exhibitions or during events.
7.2 To ensure the safety of exhibits and to be considerate to other visitors, please do not use flash/lighting apparatus, selfie sticks or tripods, and follow the photography and filming regulations of the Museum.
7.3 UMAG staff may photograph, film, videotape, record or otherwise reproduce the image and voice of any visitor who enters the Museum and use the same for educational, media or editorial purposes, which may be used on the web, social media platforms, in publications or as UMAG promotional materials. UMAG also reserves the right to close any gallery for video recording or photography.

Public order
8.1 Please help to keep facilities clean; do not write on, mark, soil or damage any objects or Museum property. Visitors may be held responsible for any damage.
8.2 Please do not touch, move or lean against any exhibits, unless specifically allowed by the Museum. A safe distance should be maintained from all exhibits, cases, platforms and pedestals.
8.3 To protect the exhibits, please wear your backpack on your front.
8.4 Please help maintain a quiet and pleasant environment. Do not make excessive noise and avoid causing disturbances. If you wish to make a phone call, please be considerate of the volume.
8.5 Without the prior consent of UMAG, megaphones, microphones and simultaneous interpretation equipment are not allowed in the Museum.
8.6 Visitors under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
8.7 Please do not run or play inside the Museum.
8.8 Please do not sit on any stairs.
8.9 Any distribution of unauthorised printed or recorded materials of any kind is prohibited.
8.10 Without the prior consent of UMAG, you are not allowed to conduct any guided tours.
8.11 UMAG reserves the right not to allow any behaviour deemed inappropriate in the Museum. Staff also reserves the right to deny admission or to ask visitors to leave the Museum without compensation or liability for failing to comply with instructions or engaging in unsafe, illegal or unruly behaviour.

Amendment
9.1 UMAG reserves the right to change, alter, add, delete, suspend, revise and update all information in this document at any time without giving prior notice. Please check prior to your visit to ensure that you are aware of the latest guidelines.
9.2 In case of dispute in relation to any of the above, the Museum’s decision will be final. In the event of any conflict or inconsistency between the two versions, the English version shall prevail.

ADVERSE WEATHER ARRANGEMENT

Museum Opening

  1. Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above
    UMAG will be closed and remain closed if the signal is lowered less than 3 hours before the normal closing time.
  2. Black Rainstorm Warning Signal
    If the signal is issued during the normal opening hours, UMAG will remain open. If the signal is issued before the opening hours, UMAG will be closed until the signal is cancelled. If the signal is cancelled less than 3 hours before the normal closing time, UMAG will remain closed.

Arrangements of Museum Programmes
Under the situations as listed below:
a) Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 (or above) is hoisted; or
b) Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 will be issued within two hours as announced by the Hong Kong Observatory; or
c) “Extreme conditions” after super typhoons are in force (announced by the Government before the Hong Kong Observatory replaces Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 with Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3); or
d) Red or Black Rainstorm Signal is in force

I. The following arrangements will apply:
For on-site programmes* not yet started

If any of the warnings or announcements is hoisted or in force at or after 6:00 am All programmes commencing before 2:00 pm will be cancelled automatically.
If any of the warnings or announcements is hoisted or in force at or after 11:00 am All programmes commencing at any time from
2:00 pm and before 6:00 pm will be cancelled automatically.
If any of the warnings or announcements is hoisted or in force at or after 3:00 pm All programmes commencing from 6:00 pm onward will be cancelled automatically.

For on-site programmes* already started

When Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above is hoisted or the No. 8 Signal will be issued within two hours as announced by the Hong Kong Observatory, or “extreme conditions” are in force All programmes will be suspended immediately.

 

When Red or Black Rainstorm Signal is hoisted All programmes, except those held outdoors, will continue.  

For outdoor activities, the responsible staff members on the spot should suspend the activities immediately, ensure that all participants are taken to a safe place, and remain there until it is safe for them to return home.

II. Online programmes
Unless otherwise advised by the organisers, all online activities will continue as scheduled under all weather conditions (including situations (a) to (d) listed above).

Further Notes
Cancelled programmes will be postponed or fees refunded. Programme fees (if any) will be refunded only if there are more than half of the class time left to the original finishing time. UMAG will inform the participants of the arrangement as soon as possible.

When Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 or Amber Rainstorm Signal is in force, it should be assumed that all programmes will be held as scheduled unless an announcement to the contrary has been made by UMAG.

*Refer to, but not limited to guided tours (public or scheduled), workshops, talks, demonstration.

MUSEUM FLOOR PLAN

GROUP VISIT AND GUIDED TOUR

Reservations are required for group visits (10 pax or more) and guided tours.

Museum staff are available to provide guided tours of collection highlights and special exhibitions. These tours cater to specific ages or interest groups and are open to members of the general public. They are conducted in English, Cantonese or Putonghua. Tours can be scheduled during the museum’s opening hours for groups of up to 20 people. However, limited daily quotas operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
