Abstract

Artist Alberto Reguera will converse with UMAG Director Florian Knothe about his inspiration and approach to creating works in the current exhibition Homage to Aert van der Neer. Developed from an extensive study of the representation of light in European painting, with a particular emphasis on the Dutch Golden Age landscape tradition, Reguera’s paintings reflect a thoughtful application of seventeenth-century Dutch painter Aert van der Neer’s style, as well as Reguera’s own innovation in depicting the sky at different points throughout the day. Registered participants will receive a free copy of the exhibition publication Homage to Aert van der Neer at the end of the talk, which will be followed by a book signing session.

Artist

Alberto Reguera (Segovia, b. 1961) is a Spanish artist currently based in Madrid for whom travelling across Spain and around the world has become a way of life. For more than three decades, he has developed numerous projects which consider painting as a starting point, exploring the relationship between his work’s pictorial layers and the interactive attitude of the viewer.

Reguera follows painterly traditions while blurring the distinctions between painting, sculpture, expansive painting, installation work and pictorial performance.
