Keynote by Professor Gerd Zimmermann, former director of Bauhaus University Weimar:
“Bauhaus: The Original Vision – How does it reflect today and what are the Impulses for the Future?

What was innovative about the Bauhaus and how do these impulses continue to work today? Scientists from Germany and Hong Kong are investigating this question. They shed light not only on the areas of architecture, design, art and media, but also on the innovative, interdisciplinary training concept of the Bauhaus, which promoted innovative ideas. A special focus is on Bauhaus' influences in Asia, including Hong Kong.

This symposium is a cooperation of The University of Hong Kong, which is also the host, Hong Kong Baptist University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong - School of Creative Media and The Chinese University of Hong Kong with experts from the German universities Bauhaus University Weimar, Trier University of Applied Science, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and Bauhaus Dessau, sponsored by the DAAD and co-organized by the Goethe-Institut.
A free screening of the documentary film Bauhaus Spirit: A 100 Years of Bauhaus, directed by Nils-Christian Bolbrinker and Thomas Tielsch, will be held on Thursday, 11 April 2019 at 19:30 – 21:00 at Lecture Theatre LG1 – CYPP4, Chong Yuet Ming Physics Building, HKU. Free admission, all are welcome, please click here to register.
